Top 3 Tips to Keeping Rodents Out of Your Home This Winter

It is known that rodent infestations are on the rise in winter. The first thing to do is to leave no access area for these small rodents because they are very agile. Rats and mice are problematic and can cause you a lot of hassle.  They will pose a threat to your health and your environment and generally, they can be tricky to get rid of without a professional. We know prevention is better than the cure usually, so you need to get proactive! You want to be able to protect your home this winter, so here is how.

1. Seal the Cracks Immediately

Seal all cracks in your foundations and joints around your pipes. Check all areas where the rats or mice may be able to get in. Such as doorways, cracks in your outdoor wall or spaces and even your drain pipes. Also, the installation of metal anti-intrusion screens can block the entry points that the animal uses. If you don’t feel able to do it perfectly, know that we offer an effective parasitic caulking service and we use the best sealants on the market. Our team can intervene quickly to protect you. Rodents enter the home in winter to find food. As with most animals, foraging in the wintertime can be tricky, so they need a place for shelter and for food. Therefore sealing the cracks is going to be vital!

You can do your own inspection by having a thorough look around your property and noticing any spots that look as if they need to be sealed. It is most certainly a great prevention method. In addition, you can spray some repellents also which will dissuade the rodents from entering.  Apple cider vinegar is worth a try.

2. Storage and Clean up

In case rodents can break into your property, you can dissuade them from exploring the interior of your home. It is important to store all your food in airtight metal boxes, vacuum or sweep the kitchen or dining room floor to remove any crumbs or food residues, use a trash can with a waterproof lid, take out and empty the trash frequently. Rodents are particularly attracted to provisions and food scraps. It is therefore in your best interest to keep provisions in airtight containers, whether they are stored in the living area of the house, an apartment or the cellar.

Remember that rodents are hungry and will eat everything you leave out. Be sure to pick up any fallen fruit in your garden as this will attract them. This includes berries, apples and things of that nature. You should ensure the place is as clean as tidy as possible until a professional pest control agent comes to inspect your home and eradicate all these pests.
