Fall has come along yet again, meaning a change in weather that has a considerable impact on your home. The drop in temperatures and the increase in wet weather conditions means certain pests like to turn up and make themselves at home. In this post, we’re going to look at some of the major fall pests to look for, helping you spot the signs of an infestation!

Rodents

Rats, mice, and squirrels are common rodents that like to find their way into your house during fall. They want a nice warm place to make nests as the summer subsides, usually found in your attic or basement. Rodents can be a problem as they gnaw and scratch everything in sight, possibly even chewing through electrical wires and causing holes in your home.

It’s fairly easy to spot a rodent infestation as they leave little droppings everywhere, you may see holes that have been chewed through sideboards, and you can hear scratching in your attic or between your walls.

Wasps

Wasps are known to start feeding in the fall to get ready for the long winter ahead. There’s a lot of fruit that falls to the ground, so they’re always buzzing around picking up some scraps. You can find them near your home all the time, especially if you have any fruit trees growing in your garden. Obviously, the main issue is that they can sting you, but you also have the problem of wasps nests in your home that can be tricky and expensive to remove.

Identifying a wasp infestation is as easy as noticing how many wasps are buzzing around your home. Do you see an abnormal cluster flying around? Are they all grouped around a certain corner of your roof? If this is the case, they may have made a nest in your roof that needs to be taken care of.

Spiders

Again, spiders are known to come indoors during the fall to seek out warmer homes. On the whole, they are the least of your concerns as they can actually help you take care of other pests – like flies, wasps, etc. The only issue is that spiders can ruin your home with long cobwebs everywhere.

That’s the key way to spot a spider infestation; an abundance of cobwebs on your property. If you feel there are more webs than normal, it might be time to get some professional help.

Cluster Flies

Cluster files are a type of fly that starts hibernating in homes around August. The problem with them is that they infest your home and just lay eggs everywhere, leading to more flies when hibernation ends.

They’re relatively easy to spot; you just have to look for large collections of flies that seemingly aren’t moving. They might look dead, but they’re really just sleeping.
