How to Spot a Wasp Nest

Summer is in full swing, which means one thing for homeowners; wasps. These flying pests can be a nuisance, but with a bit of knowledge on how to spot a wasp nest and where they like to hang out, you can take steps to get rid of them before they cause any real damage. In this blog post, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about wasp nests so you can identify them and get rid of them as soon as possible. Let’s get started!

Know where to look for a Wasp Nest

Wasps like to build their nests in dark, secluded places. This could be in the eaves of your home, under a deck or porch, or even in a hollow tree. If you see wasps flying in and out of an area that meets these criteria, there’s a good chance there’s a nest nearby. If you’re not sure whether or not there’s a wasp nest on your property, take a look for these telltale signs:

  • Clusters of wasps near an entrance to a potential nesting site
  • Chewing or scraping noises coming from inside walls or other secluded areas
  • Visible mud tubes or chewed wood near potential nesting sites (this is how wasps construct their nests)

What to do when you find one

Once you’ve identified a wasp nest on your property, it’s essential to take steps to get rid of it as soon as possible. The best way to do this is by contacting a professional pest control company that will have the tools and expertise necessary to remove the nest safely. If you decide to try and remove the nest yourself, be very careful! Wasp stings can be excruciating in some cases.
